Observation

Species: Brown-tailed Rock Chat (Oenanthe scotocerca) info
Number: 4
Breeding: ?
Remarks: Four birds feeding together over low rocks and dropping to ground from lthere. Located at the foot of granite mountains. Active. Brief modest but typical chat forward wing flicks. Some pale below, others greyer below and all somewhat darker on upperparts than many images online from further east. Tail dark brown, darkening from tawnier base, but subtly. Tail not uniform black though general similarity to grubby African Blackstarts (by comparison with Middle East birds) needs care. Undertail coverts showing very faint rufous tinge on some. Variable markings on head suggest very subtle eye to ear covert mask on some. Subtle variation in plumage and behaviour foraging close together suggests adults with recently fledged young?
