Observation

Species: Ortolan Bunting (Emberiza hortulana) info
Number:
Breeding:
Remarks: Robert Thomson:  Probable record.  Very brief sighting in binoculars to this bird for a second or so. Bunting sized bird with bunting shape.  Clear malar stripe and yellow eye-ring made me quite sure at the time this was an Ortolan.  I do have experience with ortolans, but those have been singing males breeding in farmlands in southern Finland.  I’d suggest this record be unconfirmed be  cause of the brevity of the sighting.  [WABDaB Admin: description fits, species found in Chad before, observation in the Ennedi not unexpected on way to wintering grounds in e.g. Nigeria, but observer not 100% confident.]
