Remarks:

one bird emitting a flute-like call similar to that of Grey-headed Bush-shrike M. blanchoti, with a very soft response from an invisible bird. Later seen often and close up (PS, pers. comm. to JB 27 January 1994). The description of the call is correct and quite different from the call of Sulphur-breasted Bush-shrike M. sulfureopectus., which Many-coloured Bush-shrike most closely resembles in plumage. In plumage Many-coloured Bush-shrike, seen close up by PS, is quite distinct from Grey-headed Bush-shrike, with which PS was also quite familiar. Both Many-coloured and Grey-headed are illustrated in colour in Serle et al. (1977).
